Junglefy - Bourke Street Public School

Bourke Street Public School showed their commitment to student welfare and urban greening, by becoming the first government school to include a living wall on the school grounds. The school community understood the benefits of nature on student learning and wellbeing, so the P&C committee undertook fundraising activities to fund the entire project. The former concrete wall surrounding the elevator and bathrooms was transformed with plants to reduce the heat absorbed from the asphalt and create a more comfortable space to play. The wall connects students to nature in this inner-city environment and provides valuable learning opportunities on biodiversity and resilience. Completed in 2020, the green wall measures 17.5 square metres and features 466 plants from 16 species including Plectranthus madagascariensis, Phlebodium ‘Blue Star’, Nephrolepis Fluffy Ruffles, Blechnum gibbum ‘Silver Lady’, Schefflera aboricola, Chlorophytum, Humata tyermanii, Nematanthus glabra, Neomerica gracilis, Begonia coccinea, Nematanthus glabra (orange), Nephrolepis exaltata, Trachelospermum jasminoides, Philodendron Hope, Strobilanthes dyerianus and Spathiphyllum.

Our Role

Junglefy designed and installed the green wall and continues to provide ongoing maintenance to ensure the wall is in perfect health throughout the seasons.
